Here's what we are up to now
Paws and Whiskers Kitten Shower
Paws and Whiskers Cat Shelter is hosting a Kitten Shower on Saturday, April 3, 2021. The Shower will take place in the parking lot of the shelter at 32 Hillwyck Dr., Toledo, OH from 12-4pm. The event is free to the public.
The purpose of the Kitten Shelter is help stock up the Shelter for the needed supplies for the influx of kittens. “Spring means many kittens need help,” stated Sara Baker, Paws and Whiskers Shelter Director. “Many kittens are found abandoned and need significant care to help them survive. Last year we rescued 447 and their moms. These kittens are then fully vetted and made available for adoption.”
Shower attendees will be able to do a kitten nursery peek in, as well as games, activities, a photo station, and a coffee and food truck. All activities will be socially distanced to comply with local regulations. Attendees must wear masks.
Paws and Whiskers is Toledo’s only no kill cat shelter. Last year, over 700 cats found their forever homes because of Paws and Whiskers. The average cost of a stay at Paws and Whiskers is $225, and the shelter depends on the generosity of their supporters and donors to meet the needs of each cat. Paws and Whiskers does not receive any government funding.
Paws and Whiskers appreciates Jupmode, Charlotte Marshall, and Michael’s Bakery for their support of this event.

Reading with Cats
Paws and Whiskers is excited to offer a reading program! On Sunday's from 12-2:30 and Monday's from 12-4, children can sign up to read to cats for 30 minutes at a time. Reading to animals has been proven to be beneficial for all children, but especially for reluctant readers, as animals provide a safe, supportive atmosphere for kids and don't mind mistakes. Children will also be able to take a book home at the end of their session thanks to our partnership with Read for Literacy. Children must be accompanied by an adult at all times during the reading program. Call the shelter at 419-536-1914 to reserve your time!
Just like people, sometimes cats nails can get a little long, which can cause pain for your cat, your furniture and the backs of your hands at playtime - ouch! Paws and Whiskers offers nail trims for $5 (cash only please!) during all open hours. Please call 419-539-1914 to schedule your appointment and save your couch!
Whiskers Wall of Fame!
In honor of National Cat Day and with thanks to a generous donor, we have a wonderful matching fund opportunity to share with our adopters and current and former fosters.
We recently completed a new cat room at Paws and Whiskers, and wanted to honor the cats we've cared for by creating a name mural on one of the walls in the new cat room. This is your chance to have your former Paws and Whiskers Cat on our Whiskers Wall of Fame!
You may honor a cat you adopted from Paws or a current or former foster or you may also memorialize a cat who came from Paws and is no longer with us. The cost per name is $25. We are especially excited because we have a generous donor who is offering to match each contribution up to $2000!
Please email Jen Pollard at firstname.lastname@example.org with any questions.
