 Our 1st Anniversary

On Sunday December 9th, several dozen hardy soles braved the freezing rain to help us celebrate the end of our first year in our new facility. We had several adoptions, food, cookies and cake, and a visit from the Jolly Old Elf himself. Pictured above right Virginia Rybicki takes a minute to tell Santa what she wants for Christmas.  At the top  left is the food set up prepared by Bonnie Edinger and in the middle Carolyn Ford shows off her new feline friend adopted during the open house. We received a number of donations and all in all it was a very successful afternoon.

Paws and Whiskers Annual Meeting

On October 7th 2007, Paws and Whiskers Cat Shelter held it’s annual membership meeting. Jay Christian of the local chapter of The International Cat Association was on hand spoke on a new partnership between his organization and PAWS. In this relationship the TICA group will be fostering pregnant moms, nursing moms, and orphaned kittens for PAWS until they are old enough to come into the shelter and be adopted. This will relieve a lot of stress on our limited foster homes. Also at the meeting Jim Parritt was given an appreciation award for his donation of cabinets to our new shelter. Jim is pictured in the upper left receiving the certificate from President Ken Thomas. Pictured to the right is Kathy Isaacs receiving an award for 10 years of dedicated service to Paws and Whiskers. The picture to rightis of Paws and Whiskers 2007 Volunteer of the Year Russ Isaacs receiving his award.

 House Fire Strands Kittens!!

A two-alarm house fire in south Toledo that broke out around 2:00am on August 28th, 2007 in the 700th block of South Erie, near Hobart left these four kittens homless.

The flames that started in a vacant house, then spread to two houses nearby. After the fire was out and bulldozers were knocking down the remains these four orphans were discoverd shivering, half submurdged in a puddle.  Apparently the mom upon discovering the danger was attempting to get her babies to safety.  The kittens were brought here to Paws and Whiskers where after a good meal and flea treatment they are doing fine.   They should be old enough and ready for adoption in four to five weeks
